Bringing an Old Garden Bench Back to Life
Just wrapped up a cracking garden bench restoration project that I’m really chuffed about. A customer brought us this old garden bench that was proper looking sorry for itself— covered in moss, wood splintering, and looking worse for wear. They didn’t want to chuck it because it had sentimental value, so they asked if we could do anything to spruce it up.
From Drab to Fab
First off, we stripped it down to see what we were working with. It was a solid bench underneath all that wear and tear, just needed a bit of TLC. We sanded down the wood to get rid of all the old, flaky paint and smooth out the surface. Next up, treated the wood with a nice, dark stain that really brought out the grain and gave it that brand new look.
The metal parts were a different story. They were rusted pretty bad, but nothing Rusty Restorations couldn’t handle. We got rid of the rust, primed it, and gave it a fresh coat of black paint. It’s amazing what a bit of paint can do—went from scrap metal to looking top-notch.
Like New, But Better
Once everything was cleaned up and treated, we put it all back together. The end result? You wouldn’t believe it’s the same bench. It’s got that classic look but feels sturdy and fresh—ready for many more years in the garden. The customer was over the moon with the garden bench, said it was just like they remembered it when they first got it.
