Restoration Of The Old Railway Station’s Decorative Roof Panel

I’ve just wrapped up a job that was a real treat for any metalworker—restoring the decorative panels at the front of The Old Railway Station’s roof. It was a sweltering day, but getting stuck into a piece of local history kept me going strong. Restoring something that’s both functional and a bit of art is exactly why I love this job.

A Piece of History in My Hands

The station’s roof has been weathering away over the years, and while most of it still needs some TLC, the front decorative panel was in urgent need of rescue. It had completely fallen apart due to rust and age, leaving a noticeable gap that spoilt the building’s historic facade.

Precision Restoration Work

The job involved more than just fixing a few holes. I had to recreate the ornate metalwork that was originally there—a task that required a good eye for detail and a steady hand. I took the time to study the remaining patterns and replicated them, ensuring the new piece matched the old style perfectly. It’s about preserving that authentic look, making sure everything fits just right.

Crafting and Installation on a Hot Day

Crafting the new panel took some serious concentration, especially under the blazing sun. But once I got it shaped and fitted, it was all worth it. Installing the new piece was a delicate process, ensuring it blended seamlessly with the older sections without causing any damage.

More Work to Do

Although the decorative panel is back in place and looking as grand as ever, the rest of the roof still needs some attention. It’s a big project, but getting this part done has definitely made a huge difference. It’s about getting these landmarks back to their former glory bit by bit.
